I've made this one a Limited Edition A3 signed print of 50. Why? Because it's rather special. It's Edinburgh for a start, the city of my home. Also, because one of the two slides, the one of Edinburgh's Scott Monument, has degraded and turned a gorgeous purple hue. I don't alter anything in these 35mm slide photo composites and that includes the colour palettes. And this one is so overflowing with vibrant hues of the city I love - those Palm Trees! - it fills me with joy every time I look at it.

A Sense of Someplace Series. These images are hand-made composites created from two found 35mm slides – slides from family or personal archives that are sourced from car boot sales, second-hand shops or given to me. Two slides are layered into one slide mount. More at asenseofsomeplace.org

Two 35mm slides. One slide mound. 100% analogue.

Artist Lindsay Perth dismantles individual mounted 35mm slides, layering two into a single slide mount. Using a 35mm slide projector to view, Perth seeks to create new narratives from this past material that interrupt or tilt what we think we are seeing.

"There is, I think, a cognitive discussion — we move back and forth between the two images, questioning what we think we see. Often, there is a tussle until we settle on a single overall narrative. And sometimes, as is often with photography we think it's a witness, we take that leap and believe. Or see what we want to see, even if it doesn’t make sense because it tells us a story."
